Memorial Day
Today, we join people across this land in honoring the brave men and women of the United States military who gave their lives in service to our nation. Memorial Day is a time to pause, reflect, and remember the sacrifice behind the freedoms we enjoy.
The Department of Veterans Affairs describes Memorial Day as commemorating those who died while in military service, and notes a national moment of remembrance at 3:00 p.m. local time.
On this day of remembrance, we invite our community to honor the fallen with gratitude, dignity, and reflection. May we remember their courage, recognize the cost of service, and carry forward a lasting commitment to never forget.
Lt. Joseph Orleck, namesake of USS ORLECK DD 886 was lost at sea during the WWII Invasion of Salerno and a Memorial Stone was place in Arlington.
