VETERANS DAY 11/11/11 EVENT
USS ORLECK SAILORS, FAMILY AND FRIENDS
Monday November 10th
9:30-5:30 Videoed interviews as scheduled
Tuesday, November 11th
10 AM-3 PM -The USS ORLECK DD 886 will open for tours.
10:00 AM -Ceremony (chairs, podium and tents will be placed on the pier facing USS ORLECK). There will be a program that will include an opening prayer by shipmate Brian Bodaly, welcome by Ben Loder to introduce Jim Fossa for welcoming remarks and ship update, shipmates speaking (that means you), a special remembrance for those shipmates no longer with us-carnations provided-a time for remembrance, Taps played and opportunity to cast your remembrance carnation into the water in remembrance of those who have passed.
11:00 AM A bell will be rung at 11 AM in recognition of Armistice Day when in WWI, the guns ceased firing at that time. Upon ringing of the bell, our ceremony will be complete.
10:00 AM -I was told that the street to USS ORLECK will be closed by 10 AM for the parade so, if you drive, you will need to be in the ship parking area at the pier by that time. Since our ceremony is at 10:00 AM, most will already be at the ship.
11:00 AM-11:45 -At the end of the ceremony (when the bell is rung), please move to the roped area (chairs will be provided) to view the Jacksonville Veterans Day Parade as it passes on the street where USS ORLECK is moored.
11:45 AM -Make your way back to the area for lunch next to USS ORLECK where we held the earlier ceremony.
12:00-1:00 PM -Catered lunch provided at no cost but donations to help pay for the cost would be appreciated and accepted!
1:00-3:00 PM -Tour USS ORLECK (docents will be present to answer questions)
Early evening-Dinner on your own. Find an old shipmate friend or make a new one and have a nice evening remembering.
