What William Bluhm said is true, I sent mine in the day after Bob put out the word. Being retired and just paying for the reunion it hurt the old pocket book a tad, but OUR ship is worth every penny. I am hoping the rest of you are behind this effort to get our ship a good home where she will be taken care of in a fashion befitting a Grand Old Lady. Remember she took care of us in Korea and Vietnam, she brought us home safely. Now lets pay her back one more time. Once the move is made things will get back to normal. I say Let's have our next reunion in North Little Rock, Arkansas.

I received Bob's card today asking for pledges for the move to NLR. I can't think of a better contribution from the Orleck Association than a concerted support from the membership to meet this pledge. The two days that I spent on Orleck in Orange renovating ceiling lights gave me lots of lost memories of the time I spent on her. Not exactly the job of a FT....but needed to get the old girl illuminated below.
Lets get behind this project and when you visit her in NLR...declare youself a SHIPMATE!

Please go to the Forum and specifically to "Operation Rescue" for further update on the preparation of USS ORLECK for her movement to another city to serve as a museum. When you read the account you will see that there is a need for help in getting her ready for viewing in the next couple of days. I know that most of you live too far away to help but there are some who might be able to drive down and help. If you can please call me or e-mail me to let me know and I will help coordinate it with those in Texas. Bob Orleck

It looks like our prayers are being
answered for the ship!
Praise God
Comment from Bob Orleck-Please keep USS ORLECK in your prayers. This project to save her is not certain as of yet and there are many things that could go wrong. Pray until you hear from me that we have "mission accomplished". You will notice that I have not asked for you to honor your pledges yet. I told you I would not do that until the saving of the USS ORLECK was assured. Those who have not pledged, please do so. Such pledges have a great psychological affect on those working on this project.

Hello, this is Jason Chen from Taiwan. I'm so exciting to find this association since Taiwan did not keep the old destroyers very well. I was served in DDG-925 from 1991-1993. She (DD-837 Sarsfield) was transferred to Taiwan in 1977 and changed to DDG-925. We upgrated her arms and the construction and protect the Taiwan straight until 2005. My English not very well, anyway, nice to meet you all

The following has just been released by Evan Caffrey, Attorney for the Foundation, for general distribution. Please stay in prayer for your ship and the possibilities that are developing for her at a new home. Bob Orleck---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To all USS ORLECK supporters:
The ship is now at CBH Services shipyard in Orange, Texas. Today divers will begin underwater work, starting with removal of the propellers. We expect to have the propellers off by Thursday evening, then work will begin on removal of the sonar dome. The diving is being done by Tiburon Divers out of Houston. Parker Diving out of Long Beach will send a consultant to advise on removal of the sonar dome. CBH Services will support the divers with rigging and crane service. We intend to have many photos and/or video of the props and dome as they come out of the water. When this work is completed the ship's draft will be drastically reduced, enabling further transportation, hopefully to North Little Rock. We are continuing to receive positive signals from North Little Rock, and as soon as a few remaining wrinkles are ironed out with the tow plan, we expect a bright green light from NLR to receive the ship and make it part of its excellent Arkansas Inland Maritime Museum, current home of the sub RAZORBACK and future home of the tug HOGA, and hopefully of the ORLECK!
Once we get a firm commitment from NLR, temporary removal of the forward mast and other parts of the superstructure will take place to allow bridge clearance on the Arkansas River. The tow will be handled by Overseas Carriers, Inc., out of Houston/Friendswood TX.
We are exploring whether we can keep one propeller for display and sell the other to raise funds, and also whether we can take a blade or bronze "dunce cap" from one of the screws and have the metal used to make "challenge coins" to honor the ORLECK and GEARING Class destroyers.
We will forward further info, progress reports, and photos as soon as possible.
Evan T. Caffrey
