Questions about the forum and how it works or problems you are having.
This section will allow you to ask a question about the forum or the website in general. If my answer might be instructive to more than just yourself I will post an answer for others to reference to. If the question and answer will primarily affect you only, I will probably send you an e-mail and delete the post. In this way the section will become a resource for new enlistees, at least that is my hope.

Where are they now?
This is a forum where you can make requests to find a shipmate you want to contact, to let us know you were a shipmate and you found us or to stimulate others to find shipmates so we can get them involved in the great USS ORLECK ASSOCIATION so they can reap the benefits of a SCUTTLEBUTT and information on reunions. Also this would be the place to put information on what you are doing in your life after the Navy. Many people would be interested.

The Way I Remember It!
We want history in the way you remember it happened. Tell us of your experiences when you served aboard USS ORLECK. Don't worry about all the details, we just want what you remember.

Deck Log & Cruise Book Projects
USS ORLECK DECK LOG PROJECT
Thanks to the leadership of two men, Gary Peters and John Barrios and the untiring work of many many others who transcribed, we are close to the completion of one of the most energetic projects that any Destroyer Group has undertaken. Soon we will have the entire 37 years of history of the USS ORLECK as a United States warship on line and searchable.
Gary Peters got it started and then we lost Gary to cancer but before he left us he prepared John Barrios to take over and take over he did. John has gotten more volunteers and has brought the project to a new level and now has expanded the work to get all of the USS ORLECK cruisebooks on CDs to be sold to raise funds for DESTROYER USS ORLECK ASSOCIATION. That project is not yet done and you will be kept current on it here. Please go to the menu on our website and check out the Deck Log entries for when you were on-board. If your date is not there contact John and ask him when that can be expected.

TCG YUCETEPE D 345 (1982-1998)
We all know the excellent service of USS ORLECK DD 886 from her commissioning in 1945 to her decommissioning in 1982. We know very little about that continued excellent service as a Turkish warship from 1982 to her decommissioning there in 1998. This forum will be dedicated to attempting to tell the story of her 16 years as a great ship of our strong NATO ally and friend, Turkey. I would encouraage those who have had contact with her as a Turkish warship post here. I hope that many Turkish Naval Officers will see this and post their thoughts and if they forward photos to me I will see that they are posted. USS ORLECK sailors are proud of her service as TCG YUCETEPE and are thankful to the carrying hands that kept her for those 16 years.

Who are these people, places or times involved?
Can you identify who appear in these photographs? Can you tell the time these photos were taken of USS ORLECK. Can you tell where these places were in the photographs. If you can post a reply and tell us who they are. If you want some photos you have entered here just e-mail them to me with a note to bob@ussorleck.com

Oldies but Goodies
OLDIES BUT GOODIES!
The guestbook is a great way to communicate but what happens as time passes is that the posts get pushed down the line and unless you are really diligent it is hard to review those past words. I asked Gerald Hannah to be the moderator of a new site that I hope will stimulate more use of the Forum and will encourage you to post to it. He will be reviewing old posts that are interesting and placing them on this Forum. Maybe it will trigger a story from you and you will share it with us. The only way to maintain interest in the website is for you to use it and post to it. That is what this website is about. It is about USS ORLECK and it is about your service on her. The ship cannot tell the stories so you have to be the one to do it. Bob Orleck
